A tobacco brand making history
It all started some 35 years ago when 3 tobacconist retailers in the northern part of the Netherlands endeavoured to establish a mode of cooperation. The problem they encountered was that manufacturers demanded ever larger orders from them for their own brands of cigars. Mr stoffels, Mr Hofman, and Mr Stiekema decided thereupon to launch their very own cigar brand together, which they simply called SHS after the first letters of their names. SHS became a synonym for high quality and as a consequence more and more retailers applied to join the "troika".
These retailers are all driven by a common objective:
offer your customers sound advice, select a cigar that suits them best and treat your customers with care. Hence, do not act as a broker but as a specialist consultant of tobacco products.
In 1980 the cooperation counted over 100 tobaconists from the entire country who decided to choose "Compaenen" as the name for their corporate cigar. Compaenen (companions) : a name that symbolizes friendship, cooperation, and faithfullness. De name had changed the quality stayed. By now the Compaenen retailers offer a large range of products. Our three initiators could not have imagened such a success, even in their wildest dreams.
